There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about my mom who passed away just over 15 years ago now. But some times, like this entire week, she is not far away from my mind…..I remember her words, her comfort, her brown bag lunches every single day of school….lots of things.
I remember she would come to my baseball games faithfully and never just root for me, but for the whole fighting falcon team. I remember after every game she would meet me at the door and tell me her thoughts on the game. It usually went something like this…….”Way to play hard Kenny, but I have a few comments for you…..don’t yell at the umpires, use two hands next time on those pop fly balls, don’t yell at the umpires, always shake the other teams hands, don’t yell at the umpires, and don’t celebrate after you hit a home run until you get back in the dug out….oh yeah….don’t yell at the umpires!”
This week I was thinking of what I would ask her if I could…..some questions came to mind like….have you ever had your heart broken? Did you ever think your life was in danger and think you would die? Did Kathy and Millie bug you as much as they did me growing up? Did you really like those three week family vacations in the old International Travelall?
Probably a reason why I have had her on my mind so much this week….but the real issue is if you have your parents or someone very close to you that you love more than your own life……make sure they know!! Oh yeah….don’t yell at the umpires!
